"Construction Sonor" is a conceptual album
(2 CD), a sonic journey beneath the Alps, taking us down into the
tubes and shafts of the Gotthard and Lötschberg, along the
rail link being built to connect north and south. A journey we
are embarking on with 13 music projects, composers, sonic inventors
and programmers who live along the route (Luigi Archetti, Boris
Blank -Yello-, ErikM, Fennesz, Günter Müller & Tomas
Korber and others).
All of the participiants were supplied with
the same source material: fieldrecordings commissioned by Pro
Helvetia from the Zurich musician and composer Bernd Schurer.
In the summer of 2003, Schurer placed microphones at the tunnel and rail
construction
sites, in the shafts, along the conveyor belts and at railway stations. This
material, can be heard on the first CD. The second CD takes us along into
the sound worlds, interpretations and constructions of the musicians
invited to
take part in the project. The result is 13 tracks of widely varying nature,
and an object lesson in the wide-ranging possibilities of contemporary electronic-music
production.
